What
did the CHILD do?

Comments-1

What
did I Learn?

1

The
following activities are my Grand Son, Sid, who lives in Seattle, USA. I live
in Chennai.  The period is about 10 to
16 months is age.

Yes,
Sid was exploring the new found world. He learns. In reality, I learn the
process of Learning!!

I
will write what did I understood from Sid’s actions! (So called, common
Sense!)

Right
from Sid was a small Baby, he used to make lot of
Sounds, (which we did not understand!)

Also,
Sid and ourselves were living in Bellvue,
where the Electricity was supplied by a company from ‘Peugeot Sound’.

So,
I used to call Sid, as “Sound-Rajan’!

Hence
the blog is named after Sid.

Sid
came to India for his first Birth Day!

One
day, he came to my House in Chennai. He came to my Bed Room. (we have soft bed and Hard, Tiled floor in the rooms.) He
saw a stainless Steel bowl on the Bed. He intentionally dropped it on the
floor. The bowl made a big sound. He picked the bowl and dropped on the Bed; there
was NO SOUND!! Now….

Sid
drops the bowl again on the Floor; it makes Sound. Sid picks the bowl and
throws it on the Bed; NO SOUND!!!

REAPEATS
it, once more and looks at me!!!

I
would have never repeated such thing. (My parents would have scolded me, for
this mischief!)

An
activity is taken as Science, ONLY when the activity can be REPEATED many
times and it produces the SAME Result!!

(I
was told this, when I was in my mid 40s!)

Recently,
Sid was crawling from the Carpetted drawing room to
Wooden floored Dining room. In his right hand Sid was holding a Dump-truck,
which runs smoothly on the wooden floor and slowly on the Carpet, due to
friction. As long as, Sid was crawling on the carpet he was holding the truck
in his hand all the time. Once he reached the wooden floor, sid threw the Truck in front of him, and crawled bare
handed!!

If
sid had crawled with the truck on the wooden floor,
the Truck would have smoothly slipped on the floor,
Sid would have fallen flat on his face and injured himself!

Instead
he threw the truck, in front of him!

The
child learns from past experience, applies that knowledge, to progress, avoid
injuries etc., instantly!

This
is wisdom!

Sid
will play with many plastic cups; some are cylindrical (top and bottom of the
cup are same size) and some are conical. (Mouth is wider, bottom is smaller).

Sid
will roll one cup at a time and watch.

The
Cylindrical Tumbler, will roll away from Sid, whereas, conical Tumbler will
keep going in circular path and RETURN to him! Sid will start rolling Cylindrical
Cups!

First
time, I see, a Child watching movements, Laws of Science and using it. (I did
NOT have time to watch my Son & Daughter, growing, learning)

All
of us should watch how a child learns; and learn from them.

This
becomes ‘Common Sense’!

6

 Some
of you, who have seen Sid playing foot-ball, know the perfect timing of his
catching, sense of directional motion, use of his
right foot in perfect kick.

Who
knows, Sid can become a soccer player?

We
need to give opportunity for the child to develop physical abilities.

Also,
stimulate all his senses and mental capabilities!

7

Even
as a small baby, I used to play some music, early in the morning for him. He
knew the correct buttons to press, his choice of Music!

Music
is soothing for the child and us!

Play
music to child, as often as possible.

8

Sid
does NOT like physical labor, as a baby. He will not swim, crawl, at
appropriate age! Sid will only make sound to call us to bring things to him.

To
make Sid crawl, we used to place interesting objects just out-of-reach to
him. Sid will measure the distance in his mind; stop crawling, if it is not reachable,
easily!

I
remembered the Tamil saying ‘
கிட்டாதாயின்
வெட்டென
மற

“If
you can not get it, forget it immediately!”

If
only, I could practice this in my real life, I would not have wasted my time
& money!
